The Galloway branch of SERC was set up in March 1996. It held its first pleasure ride at Glentrool and ended the year with 7 members. By 2000, members had risen to 18 and in 2005 we have 30 members, 5 of whom are juniors. We also have some volunteer helpers, without whom it would be that much more difficult to put on rides.
Our 2005 programme of rides includes eight pleasure rides, and three entry level competitive rides of 32k at Shennanton, Culzean and Port Logan. The Port Logan ride is also a two-day event with overnight facilities for both horses and riders. This should be a lot of fun and a very social event!
We may be small but our rides are generally well attended and everyone knows each other, so we are able to be very friendly and helpful especially to new riders. We all enjoy meeting new riders and introducing them to our sport. We'll do our best to help with any enquiries, ranging from “How do I get there?” to “What will be expected of us on the day?”
Phone any committee member for a chat or just come along to one of our rides to see what we do and enjoy a day out in some of Southwest Scotland's finest scenery.
